Cities are much more than brick and mortar, buildings and towers, streets, roads, & intersections. What makes a city, what make a place truly urban, is its connectivity; the connectivity of its many parts, coalescing into one whole, transcending time and space. As such, cities are much more than simply the sum of their parts; they are living, breathing entities, and just like life appears in organisms through the myriad connections within their bodies, so is life found in cities as a result of connections, and most specifically the connections of people.
In November 2019, Gyptian organised Connection Cairo, an exhibition exploring the different ways Cairenes come together in one of the world's most hectic, but also most exciting, cosmopolitan centres. All of the artwork at Connection Cairo - both photography & installations - was created by homegrown Egyptian artists, combining both established names with emerging talents.
